Summer is fast approaching and we are all crossing our fingers for the weather to improve. For those children who have birthdays over the coming months, here are some great themes for the best summer party.
There are many themes you can choose, but these party themes are particularly ideal for an outdoor party:
1. Hula or Hawaiian Party - The most popular summer theme for children and adults alike.
Decorate your garden or outdoor area with Hawaiian style banners, lantern garlands, inflatable palm trees, inflatable parrots, anything related to the theme. If you are creative you could make your own flower garlands by cutting out flowers shapes out of brightly coloured crepe paper and threading onto string.
There is a variety of Hawaiian, Luau or Hula themed tableware and decorations available to buy, along with wonderful accessories to give that finishing touch.
Don't forget to adorn your party guests with flower Lei chains or flower head bands and ask them to come dressed in Hula costumes!
2. Alice in Wonderland Tea Party - Children can come dressed as a character from Alice in Wonderland such as Alice, Mad Hatter, Rabbit or Caterpillar.
Decorate with fabric buntings, which are available in pretty floral designs or use personalised fabric bunting for an extra special touch. Paper lantern garlands would look great too.
Lay the party table with vintage style tableware, such as ditsy floral or polka dot design plates, cups and napkins. Probably not a good idea to use real china though!
You can buy 3 tier disposable cake stands in lovely designs, which are great to display finger sandwiches, mini pizzas, cupcakes and biscuits. You could even include some mini scones with jam & cream too!
3. Teddy Bears Picnic - This is wonderful party theme to have in the park or garden. You can use Teddy Bear themed tableware and decorations, and instead of paper plates, you can use party boxes which can be filled with food and treats for each party guest. As part of the party activity, each child could make a small teddy bear. There are many easy to make soft toy craft kits available for children. At the end of the party, give each child a little wicker basket to put their teddy in or fill with treats.
4. Butterflies and Bugs Party - A great outdoor theme for girls and boys.
Make card cut outs of various bugs, such as lady birds, caterpillars, spiders, beetles, butterflies, dragonflies and bees which you can easily dangle from tree branches and bushes to give a wonderful effect.
Adapt games to fit the theme, such as Pin the Spider on the web or Pin the Wings on the Butterfly.
Be creative with the party food for example chocolate rice crispy cakes topped with a jelly worm will go down a treat!
5. Summer Beach Party - You certainly need some hot sunny weather for this one. There are two styles of beach party you can have, a tropical beach party similar to the Hawaiian theme or a traditional British seaside party. Don't worry you don't need a swimming pool or a beach in your back garden, great if you are lucky enough to have one, but otherwise create your own beach atmosphere.
You can use a paddling pool, a sand pit complete with buckets and spades. Buy some water pistols, kids will have so much fun squirting each other!
For the seaside style party, decorate the garden with cut out shapes of shells and fish and perhaps use fishing rope or fish netting to drape around.
For food serve up fish fingers with chips, you can even serve them in little paper cones.
Don't forget to tell your guests to bring their swimming costumes though!
